Doctoral Studies

“The Doctorate represents a professional research experience that will allow you, in three years time, to earn the highest level of qualification available in France: the PhD”. (PhD student guide [PDF - 3 Mo])

“The Doctorate is a professional research degree, culminating after the viva exam with the student being awarded the title of Doctor. The research conducted by the student is supervised by the thesis director (an experienced researcher to advise and guide the student throughout his/her doctoral studies), in a research laboratory that is part of the Doctoral School. The Doctoral student, his/her supervisor, possible co-supervisors, the management of the host research laboratory and the management of the doctoral school mutually commit to the degree via the signing of the Thesis Charter (Consult the Thesis Charter & UCBL1 Amendment [PDF - 299 Ko]).

This charter describes the reciprocal commitments of each actor and is made available to the doctoral students via the SIGED application. You must read, approve and sign the charter, then include it in your registration dossier.

The Doctorate ends with the defence of a thesis constituting the validation of the scientific work that enabled the development and acquisition of knowledge.”
