Financing one's mobility

Mobility imposes additional expenses (travel expenses, stay expenses, perhaps a visa, insurance, etc.) and therefore requires specific funding.
Longer stays necessitate searching very early (6 months to 1 year prior to the mobility) for funding among the many existing financial aid programmes.

Several organizations help fund doctoral student mobilities:
  • either by awarding grants to doctoral students selected following a call for applications;
  • or by attributing funding to research teams whose selected projects make provision for doctoral student mobility, such as the Hubert Curien Partnerships (PHC).

Below the following two financial aid programmes fund "in-coming" and "out-going" doctoral student mobilities:

The CMIRA programme of the Rhône-Alpes Region: Explo'ra Doc and Acceuil Doc. EXPLORA DOC, within the Rhône-Alpes Region CMIRA programme is specially dedicated to doctoral students at the Université de Lyon.
The call for applications for grants is launched in October, with the deadline in December/January.
Contact your institution in the Rhône-Alpes region, or the Rhône-Alpes institution where you would like to pursue your research stay.

The programme makes provision for the financing of some fifteen stays.

"Out-going" mobility assistance is destined for doctoral students registered at a Université de Lyon doctoral school who would like to carry out, as part of their doctoral work, a research stay at a research unit located abroad. The programme makes provision for the financing of some twenty stays.

- Call for applications in June, with a deadline in November.
