The documents related to the CSI should be sent to EDISS by September 30th, 2025 at the latest for a 2025/2026 enrollment, regardless of the date of (re)enrollment in 2024/2025.
The role of follow-up committee
The Individual Follow-up Committee (CSI) is an individual support system that should not involve a heavy workload for either the doctoral student or his or her supervisor. During these meetings, CSI members assess doctoral training conditions, research progress and preparation for future career development. Strictly scientific aspects (scientific rationale, hypotheses, strategies, results) are not the main focus of these discussions, although they are addressed and discussed.
It meets at least once a year until the thesis defense. It is compulsory for re-registration in the next year.
Composition of the individual follow-up committee
The CSI is composed of:
- one member who is not involved in the thesis project, EDISS, or the doctoral student's research unit
- one member who is not involved in the thesis project or the doctorat student's team* (or research area for single-team units), the thesis supervisor, and any co-supervisors, who may be from the same research unit as the doctoral student. This member must be affiliated xith EDISS (see list here)
- One of the members must have an HDR (habilitation à diriger des recherches / accreditation to supervise research)
NB: The thesis supervisor must attend CSI meetings. Co-supervisors are not required to do so.
NB: Co-authors of publications by the thesis supervisor and co-supervisors, and co-inventors of patents by the doctoral student, thesis supervisor, and co-supervisors (within the last five years) may not be members of the CSI.
NB: Researchers or teacher-researchers working in foreign institutions may be members of the CSI subject to approval by the EDISS management. Their CV must show their doctoral supervision activities and must be attached to the request for approval of the composition of the CSI.
