Training courses to be validated during the PhD program

The PhD student must validate during the thesis : 
  • 1 training course on ethics in research (mandatory for all PhD students)
AND
  • 40 hours of training in professional skills divided into 2 courses of at least 20 hours each OR into one modula of at least 20 hours and two courses of at least 10 hours

Registration to the training courses offered by the University of Lyon is done online via the ADUM application. The first PhD students to register will be able to select the courses of their choice, the others will be assigned to other courses if the courses they wish to follow are fully booked.

The attendance certificates of the training course are requested by EDISS when submitting the PhD defense file.

Training courses on practices and tools for scientific information and communication and open science

Throughout the year, the Library of University Lyon 1 and URFIST (Lyon training center for reasearchers and PhD students) offer training courses to help PhD students prepare their thesis, either on the Doua campus (Villeurbanne) or online. These courses will enable PhD students to optimize their working methods for their bibliography (Documentary research strategy for STM thesis - Science, Techniques, Medecine, Interrogation of patent databasesManaging bibliotgraphic references with Zotero), man age their notes (Markdown language in Obsidian software) or process and their data (PythonManaging research data). They will learn the basics of copyright as a producer and (re)user of scientific publications, and inderstand how open science can help them disseminate their PhD thesis and raise their research profile. Training courses to help PhD students to publish their first article or write a data paper are also available. All these courses can be validated by EDISS as ppart of the 40 hours of training required for the PgD defense.

Registration to these courses is available online via the ADUM platform. PhD students are advised to regularly look at the catalog of interdisciplinary training courses. The full program is also on the URFIST Lyon website.
