PhD Application (2025/2026)

Admissions ‘outside the competition’ may be granted when a thesis supervisor, team or laboratory associated with the doctoral school obtains funding corresponding to the salary of a doctoral student (minimum approximately €1,768 per month until the date of the thesis defence).

Admission is not ‘automatic’ but subject to review of the application.
The doctoral school must verify the suitability of the candidate, subject, team and funding.

STEP 1 : Submission of subjects by thesis supervisors on the ADUM platform: from 08/01/2026 to 31/03/2026

_ If you are thesis supervisor and would like to submit a subject; see subject submission procedures.
If you would like to be a thesis supersiror but do not have the HDR, please see the HDR section

Reminder:
The thesis supervisor is responsible for the scientific direction of the thesis project and for ensuring that the thesis progresses smoothly with regard to the doctoral school, the doctoral student's institution of enrolment and the doctorant student. The co-supervisor is involved in defining the thesis and the objectives to be achieved.

_ If you are a candidate and would like to see the subjects submitted: see the subjects on the ADUM plaform

STEP 2 : Candidates submit their applications on the ADUM platform

Candidature

The candidate must submit a single pdf file on ADUM, containing the following information in this order
_ the application form to be downloaded from ADUM, which must be signed by the candidate (it must include the letter of motivation and any additional information)
_ the application file, which must include a detailed scientific description of the thesis project (max 6000 caracters, including spaces)
_ the documents requested in the application file

STEP 3: Interview

All candidates authorized to register for the first year of their thesis are interviewed by members of the EDISS Council representing EDISS disciplines. The interviews take place after EDISS has examined the application files and authorization to enroll in the EDISS PhD program.

PhD students are interviewed for 20 minutes (10 min to present their phD project, followed by 10 min of questions from the Council members), so that EDISS can ensure that the thesis project is structured, well-defined and understood by the PhD students.

The PhD supervisor and co-supervisors, as well as the company representative in the case of a CIFRE, are invited the interview.

Candidates interviewed as part of the EDISS competition for government PhD fellowships are not re-interviewed if their PhD project is the one presented in the competition.

The interview must take place after the application has been accepted and before the end of the first month of the employment contract or scholarship. You will need to book a place for your interview via the link you will receive in the email sent by the secretariat to inform you that you have been authorised to register.

STEP 4 : Enrolment in EDISS PhD program

Once your doctoral project has been approved, your application file will be transferred to the ‘ADUM enrolment’ database. You will then need to enrol for your courses and complete the administrative enrolment process (see enrolment procedure).

For more information on the structure of your programme, please refer to the ‘doctoral programme’ section.

Regardless of the start date of your contract, you will move up to the next year in October (academic year enrolment).
